Lisa with over 24 years of experience as an early childhood educator, trauma counsellor, supervised contact worker, and sandplay therapist, is well equipped to handle a wide range of emotional and developmental challenges. Alongside therapy dog Bailey, she ensures that each session is tailored to the individual needs of the child and their family.

Through her counselling, children learn to manage their emotions, develop self-regulation skills, and build confidence and self-esteem, applying these skills in various settings, including home, school, and the broader community.

The range of modalities used in session.

  • Sandplay Therapy allows children to express their thoughts and emotions by creating scenes in a sandbox. This non-verbal approach helps children work through complex feelings in a safe and supportive environment.

  • Animal Assisted Therapy uses the presence of animals, such as therapy dogs, to help children feel more relaxed and open. The bond with an animal can promote healing, reduce anxiety, and support emotional well-being.

  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) focuses on changing negative thought patterns and behaviours. It helps children understand how their thoughts affect their feelings and actions, guiding them to develop healthier ways of thinking.

  • Family Therapy involves working with the entire family to improve communication, resolve conflicts, and strengthen relationships. It helps family members understand each other's perspectives and work together to create a supportive home environment.

  • Narrative Therapy encourages children to explore and reshape their personal stories. By looking at their lives as stories, children can gain new insights, overcome challenges, and develop a stronger sense of identity.

  • Child-Centred Therapy focuses on the child’s unique needs and perspectives. The therapist provides a supportive environment where the child feels heard and understood, empowering them to express their thoughts and emotions freely.

  • Play Therapy uses play as a way for children to communicate and express themselves. Through play, children can explore their feelings, resolve conflicts, and gain a deeper understanding of their experiences.

  • Expressive Therapies involve creative activities like clay, art, music, and movement to help children explore and express their emotions. These therapies offer a safe and imaginative way for children to work through difficult feelings and experiences.

The process.

(1) Initial Consultation

Firstly I will meet with you, the parents or carers, to gather information and assess your child's needs. From this discussion I will create a tailored therapy plan that aligns with the child's goals. We will identify the tools and techniques that will best support their journey. This plan will guide us to ensure your child's wellbeing is at the heart of every session, and it will evolve as we move forward.

(2) Counselling Sessions

With the plan in place, we begin our counselling sessions. Each session is an opportunity for your child to grow, reflect, and heal. We'll work through challenges, explore their thoughts and feelings and develop coping strategies. Throughout this phase your child's progress and feedback are crucial to tailoring the therapy to their needs.

(3) Ongoing Support

Towards the end of our planned sessions we evaluate your child's progress and discuss the next steps. This might include setting new goals, continuing with regular sessions, or transitioning to less frequent check-ins. The aim is to ensure your child has a solid support system and strategies that promote lasting wellbeing and resilience.
