Play therapy is a specialised and evidence-based therapeutic approach designed to support children and young people in navigating through challenges and expressing themselves. Using various psychological theories, this approach recognizes and utilizes the natural processes of children to learn and communicate through play. By engaging in play, children can navigate through emotions and experiences within a secure environment that revolves around them, fostering feelings of acceptance, encouragement, and freedom.

Life changing experiences

“The child I referred to sand play therapy was referred because of his complex emotional and behavioural issues and in particular to give him the support that he needs to be able to explore some of his feelings and begin addressing some of his difficulties. This child has developed in leaps and bounds since he began to attend counselling. He explored some of his past experiences, making sense of his feelings and testing out ways to communicate these, addressing some of his controlling behaviours and anxieties, as well as for relaxation.”

Animal Assisted Therapy

Animal Assisted Therapy

Lisa Gray and Therapy Dog Bailey introduce a unique counselling approach known as Animal Assisted Therapy. This special method includes trained animals like Bailey in counselling sessions with children and their families. The goal is to enhance their mental and emotional health, always ensuring Bailey's happiness and willingness to participate.

This form of therapy has the ability to help children and families navigate their emotions and understand social cues better. Bailey who is accepting, offers a warm and interactive experience. Much like humans dogs may also face issues like hyperactivity, communication problems, anxiety, or impulse control. Recognising these issues in Bailey helps clients relate and in the process of assisting Bailey they learn to help themselves.

Sessions with Bailey during counselling can bolster confidence, resilience, problem-solving, and social skills. This growth can fuel a higher level of independence in their lives.

Supervised Contact

Supervised Contact

We are dedicated to providing a safe, neutral, and child-focused setting where families can build and sustain relationships under professional supervision. We are proud to offer our specialised children's contact service in the Northern Rivers, Ballina NSW.

We start with an orientation intake session. This allows you to familiarise yourself with our service, ask any questions, and enables us to customise the visit to fit your family’s unique needs.

Our foremost concern is the safety and well-being of children and families. We facilitate contact sessions as per court orders or mutual agreements, in a neutral and non-threatening environment. These sessions can be held at our centre or within the community. The supervisor ensures all exchanges involving the child are observed. Parents receive guidance and support through the process, with a service agreement designed around the child's needs and any existing orders or agreements.

Each contact session is thoroughly documented in a report, securely stored and made available for court purposes if needed. Lisa collaborates with families to foster positive interactions between children and parents, strengthening these vital relationships.

Our supervisors are professionally trained, with National Police Clearance and Working with Children Checks. They are knowledgeable in child developmental needs, and possess qualifications in Counselling, Early Childhood Education, Child & Family Support, and Community Services.

We are committed to delivering the highest standard of service. As a private service, we voluntarily adhere to the guidelines and processes required by children's contact services.
